A 1920's sandstone historic worker's maisonette located 300m from the beach. The Grange Residence was renovated to capture the feeling of coastal living . Beach tones and rustic original floorboards and skirtings together with existing period features were revived to enhance the the beautiful character of this existing residence. Poor orientation and shading by large norfolk pines required the design to access more natural lighting to the living areas. Creative use of the existing roof structure, new high level windows allowed for the creation of a lightshelf to provide required warmth and direct sunlight to penetrate into the home in winter. A natural soft reflected light washes the wall filling living area with light. This combined with a contemporary interior design elevated the simple elegance of the architectural details and craftsmanship finish resulted in a relaxed living spaces and stylish surroundings.
An outside shower/bath and a landscaped succulent wall and deck connect to an adapted covered alfresco space complete with outside fireplace enhances the experience and connection to coastal living.
